Four-quadrant operation for self-synchronous voltage source PWM converter

PWM converter is widely used in various applications such as new energy power conversion, energy storage systems, and electric vehicles, All the above fields have some common characteristics, including high power factor, bidirectional power flow, and so on. This work focuses on the self-synchronous voltage source PWM converter and investigates the feasibility of the PWM converter based on the inertial synchronization control (ISynC) method that can operate in the four quadrants. Firstly, the realization principle of the ISynC method is explained. Then, the simulation is carried out by MATLAB/SIMULINK. Finally, the experiment is carried out on a PWM converter experimental platform with a digital signal processor (DSP) as the controller. The simulation and experiment above prove that the PWM converter controlled by the ISynC method can realize four-quadrant operation, and has the ability to adjust the DC-link voltage.
