Online MTPA Control of PMaSynRM Considering Magnetic Saturation Effects

Maximum Torque Per Ampere (MTPA) ensures that the motor operates at low speeds with minimal copper losses, so it is critical to accurately solve the current set point for MTPA operation. Permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance motor (PMaSynRM) parameters vary significantly with load, and the conventional MTPA optimality criterion deviates from the ideal trajectory. In this paper, an online MTPA control method is proposed, which fully considers the effects of magnetic self-saturation and cross-saturation. Firstly, a comparison between the MTPA considering magnetic saturation and two traditional MTPAs is given in this paper. Then, an iterative initial point pre-calculation technique is proposed, reducing the number of iterations and minimizing the computational burden. Finally, the proposed method is experimentally validated and compared to verify the effectiveness of the provided method.
