IoT and Data Management System-Based Smart Incubator to Reduce Neonatal Mortality Rate

Premature babies are babies at a high risk of death because their organ system is not mature at birth. Consequently, premature babies must be cared for in incubators. Contemporary infant incubators still use manual control and monitoring systems, which cause data reading errors and are susceptible to loss due to the absence of systematic organization. It is proposed to implement an Internet of Things (IoT) baby incubator that allows remote monitoring. The incubator can monitor the weight, heart rate, temperature, incubator temperature, oxygen levels and voice levels of the baby through sensors. The collected data is displayed accurately on the LCD screen and can be viewed via the Blynk application and website via a smartphone to monitor the state and growth of the baby. Smart incubators have excellent data readability, and all sensors have an average error rate of less than 4%. The system also reacts quickly when an abnormal event occurs, and the average response time is less than 2.5 seconds. The proposed smart incubators facilitate hospital early neonatal monitoring, improve the quality of basic health services and reduce the early neonatal mortality rate in Indonesia.
