Proof of Reputation Blockchain Protocol for IoT

The potential of blockchain to provide security, transparency, and data integrity in distributed IoT environments has fuelled immense interest from academic institutions and commercial enterprises. Recently, trust-based consensus protocol has become the key to supporting distributed IoT networks through blockchain. However, current research overlooks network mo-nopolization and infinite reputation (trust), while nodes with high trust escape validation duties, leaving open questions about participation incentives. In this paper, a protocol is proposed in which a quantifiable approach to IoT node reputation is established through a numerical reputation score. This value, informed by the node's historical behavior and performance, enables objective comparison and ranking of nodes, providing a robust foundation for conflict resolution and dispute adjudication within the IoT network. A simulation is conducted to choose the most suitable scaling factors for reputation, and the results confirm the proposed protocol's robustness against possible forks and malicious behavior with a block confirmation time suitable for IoT applications in comparison with previous related work.
