Different Approaches to Enhance Raman Spectroscopy with Metasurface Structures

Enhanced surface Raman scattering (SERS) has become an attractive research field due to its importance in biosensing. Utilizing nanotechnology creates new structures that allow SERS to be possible. Two different approaches for Raman enhancement are studied. The first is the Surface plasmon polariton (SPP) approach, and the second is based on the reflection of the electric field from the different metasurfaces. SPP was used for investigation, simulation, and optimization of multi-metasurface Plasomnic structures at the nanoscale level to improve SERS. Wide-range simulations were run on a variety of designs to determine the best structure in terms of feature size for straightforward fabrication and maximal enhancement factor (EF) for Raman spectroscopy. EFs with minimum features (20nm and 50nm) are designed giving (EFs) graded from (10

) to (10

). Moreover, different Comparisons between the variable structures' designs are introduced to show the best structure combining the fabrication facility and high EF. Moreover, a solution is introduced to solve the problem of sample fixing above the nanoplasmonic structures. Raman spectroscopy measurements are enhanced by these two approaches. Raman peaks are increased by values from (10
¹
) to (10
⁸
). This can be very helpful in biomedical samples which cannot be detected by normal raman spectroscopy due to their low concentration or minute size. a new Permanent setup for SERS is introduced. This setup depends on the reflection approach. The presented arrangement depends on newly investigated metasurface structures that exploit the reflected confined waves from Nano plasmonic gold layers.
