An Edge Handover Approach Based on Cloud Synergy for Emerging Mega-constellation

Cloud computing is one of the most used distributed systems for data processing and data storage. With the continuous increase in the demands of the data processed by cloud computing, addressing this need through emerging Low Earth Orbit (LEO) mega-constellation has received widespread attention due to its global low-latency access. In this paper, We propose to realize cloud services through LEO mega-constellation networks and present the cloud synergy framework of satellite-cloud integrated networks (SCIN). We design a simple but effective real-time agent handover strategy under satellite-cloud integrated networks that is based on dynamic programming (DP). For the assurance of real-time, we also modify it to the greedy approach which can obtain a competitive result at a lower cost. The simulation test on starlink-550 mega-constellation shows that the proposed handover approaches outperform the traditional approaches in terms of blocking ratio.
