Validation of a Digital Platform for Intrafactory Logistics Optimization

Due to recent advancements in manufacturing, in-house logistics have become significantly more complicated, particularly in large-scale production lines, making the optimization of waste management a critical challenge. This study introduces a digital platform designed to enhance waste management through real-time monitoring using sensors and cameras. Our objective is to evaluate the platform's performance in optimizing waste management through comparing different scenarios of forklift routing in a copper factory setting. Employing a Discrete Event Simulation model, we examined two distinct scenarios to assess the impact of the digital platform on internal logistics. The results demonstrate a substantial decrease in both the total distance travelled by forklifts and the duration waste bins remain full, indicating a significant improvement in operational efficiency. These findings validate the effectiveness of the digital platform, highlighting its potential as a valuable tool in modern digital manufacturing.
