Emotion Regulation in Relation with Subclinical Depression in Emerging Adulthood: The Mediating Roles of Resilience and Sense of Coherence

Both emotion regulation and stress responsiveness may be effective in preventing and treating depression, but it is not clear what kind of complementary relationship exists between them. This study aims to explore a path analytic model for understanding subclinical depression in emerging adults, incorporating emotion regulation strategies, sense of coherence, and resilience. The results showed that the cognitive reappraisal strategies of emotion regulation, resilience, as well as sense of coherence were all negatively correlated with the degree of depression. Among them, improving resilience is a relatively more effective way to reduce depression.
