Design of Light-Weight and High-Speed SERDES Serial Data Transmission Protocol

With the development of modern communication technology and the deepening of application areas, data is growing at an unimaginable speed, and system-level interconnections have reached a transmission rate of Gigabit per second. Compared with parallel transmission technology, serial transmission technology is widely used in high-speed data transmission field because of many advantages. The 8B/10B encoding SERDES is a mainstream time-division multiplexing, point-to-point serial communication technology. Currently, there are various serial communication protocols available in the industry, such as Aurora 8B/10B protocol, USB 3.0 protocol, and PCI Express protocol, etc. These protocols have drawbacks of a large amount of communication redundant data and format definition, which can cause communication delays and waste system resources. This paper proposes a universal serial data transmission protocol implementation method based on 8B/10B encoding SERDES, which has the characteristics of reliable, high-speed, and full-duplex point-to-point communication. It is tested on the hardware platforms of TLK2711 and SmartFusion2's SERDESIF module. The data transmission rate can reach 2.5Gbps and the bit error rate is less than

. The test results show that this light-weight serial communication protocol is easy to implement, has a certain universality, and can provide a reference for other applications with high-speed data transmission requirements.
