Simulation Analysis of Output Features Based on 6DOF Hydrokinetic Energy Conversion Device

Inland rivers generate a significant amount of energy during the flow process, leading to energy wastage. This issue is crucial in the development of new energy sources. The objective of this study is to simulate the output characteristics of an impeller-type hydrokinetic energy conversion device using the Fluent 6DOF dynamic grid method. Additionally, it aims to analyze the device's starting and loading characteristics within a flow velocity range of 1.5m/s to 2.5m/s and under load conditions of 0N·m to 12N·m. The findings indicate that the horizontal axis hydrokinetic turbine exhibits a self-starting behavior in the acceleration zone with a tip speed ratio (TSR) of less than 1. The rotor speed experiences rapid acceleration initially, followed by a gradual increase, ultimately entering a stabilization phase when the TSR exceeds 1. Furthermore, the study investigates the load characteristics of the turbine when it operates in a river, converting the kinetic energy of water into mechanical energy. The conversion efficiency in this process varies depending on the connected load. The investigation reveals the maximum power output of the turbine at five different flow rates: 32.30105W, 47.9937W, 70.51874W, 97.80353W, and 127.23433W. The results presented in this paper provide valuable references for the practical application of hydrokinetic energy harvesting devices.
