Energy-Matching Strategy of Bivariate Drive Units in Forging Hydraulic Press

As the core energy supply part of the system, the drive unit of the forging hydraulic press often generates large energy losses because of variable and irregular loads. The hydraulic press is equipped with bivariate drive units (BD) consisting of a variable speed drive module and a variable pump to track the maximum efficiency operating point of the pump motor under different load and flow requirements and reduce the energy consumption generated by the drive system. In this study, the hydraulic system model of a forging hydraulic press was established using the AMESim software platform by analyzing the energy dissipation characteristics of the pump and motor. Based on the efficiency distribution of the motor and pump drive units, the optimal energy efficiency operating points of the drive units during the forging hydraulic press operation were matched and compared with the energy consumption characteristics of two systems with a single-variable drive unit. The comparison results showed that the energy consumption of the forging hydraulic press with the BD energy matching strategy is 5.7% and 13.1% lower than the energy consumption of the variable-speed drive system and the variable-displacement drive system, respectively, in a forming process.
