Applications of REDCap for Health Care Data Collection and Management: Ovarian Cyst and Liver Diseases Case Study

Data collection and management is a critical aspect of the healthcare industry. With the rapid growth of cases and the need for efficient management of patient medical records, a system for collecting, storing, organizing, and analyzing data has become crucial and valuable. This study aims to integrate a model system with Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) to enhance the treatment and care of patients with liver diseases and ovarian cysts. About the system population, data is imported from REDCap online surveys and organized into separate records to improve data retrieval and manipulation using MySQL queries. Moreover, the website contains tools such as percentages of record fields, analyzing data from specific aspects like age distribution, gender, and patient's daily routines. Within the period from June 2022 to July 2023, over 800 medical records had been collected, divided into two instruments: the Research_medical_record and the Questionnaire form. Furthermore, fundamental statistics had been analyzed such as the completion percentages of fields and the relationship between age and gender for patients with liver diseases. By combining different tools - REDCap, Python, HTML and Flash framework - and providing reliable, accurate results, we were able to successfully implement a user-friendly system for data collection and management resulting in a more timely, efficient storing manner and better customers' experience since information becomes more accessible and less difficult to understand.
