Photonic building blocks for board-level disaggregation in hyperscale systems

This paper introduces the European project DYNAMOS, which will develop ultra-dynamic photonic components and subsystems for data communication, using new optical wavelength bands, space division multiplexing, new integration schemes, optical switching and new switching paradigms, as solutions for time-deterministic and time-sensitive networks. In particular DYNAMOS will develop board-level fiber-management systems enabling efficient on-board disaggregation management of high numbers of optical channels for system boards with Near Packaged Optics (NPO) and Co-packaged Optics (CPO) assemblies and, in future, quantum interconnect for future hyperscale environments. Furthermore we will also report on the latest developments in a series of ultra-low loss "quantum grade" optical connectors, which, building on the subsystems developed on DYNAMOS, will form the building blocks for quantum interconnect disaggregation in future hyperscale environments.
