Effective heat dissipation of white laser diodes by welding metallized phosphor-sapphire

A phosphor-converted white laser diode (pc-wLD) was prepared for effective heat dissipation of phosphor converter. The phosphor-in-glass film (PiGF) was coated on a sapphire plate, and the silver layer was prepared on the other side of sapphire for welding to metal can of LD package. The optical performance of pc-wLD was optimized by adjusting the thickness of PiGF. The prepared pc-wLD with a PiGF of 140 μm achieves the maximum luminous flux of 199.5 lm, a CCT of 5494 K, and a chromaticity coordinate of (0.3326, 0.3433) at the current of 1.0 A. The pc-wLD realizes stable white emission with the increase of input current, and the working temperature of pc-wLD rapidly increases the first and then stabilizes at 45.5℃ when the current is 0.6 A. These results manifest that the prepared pc-wLD shows excellent opto-thermal performances with expectation as a promising white laser device to realize miniaturization and integration in high-brightness applications.
