Investigation of the Impact of Radar Interference on the Characteristics of a Radio Relay Lines

In this paper, the impact of external factors (weather conditions and industrial interference) on the quality of data transmission over radio relay communication lines operating in the 15 GHz band and located in the range of aviation radars, is investigated. This study is based on long-term monitoring of the characteristics of radio relay lines (RRLs) according to the standard methodology and metrics approved by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) documents. These technical metrics are certainly important for a particular provider of data transmission services. However, they do not allow a detailed analysis at the physical level to clarify the mechanism of external factors impact on the characteristics of the relay channel. At the same time, the results presented in this paper give us to look at the considered problem from the other side and somewhat clarify the mechanisms of influence of external factors on the quality of data transmission over radio relay communication lines.
