DLD Particle Separation Device with Thin Top Membrane

This study investigates the use of laminal flow mechanics of Deterministic Lateral Displacement (DLD) for particle separation. The method involves a top silicon dioxide membrane layer that facilitates control of the channel's upper layer. This approach allows future integration of other microfluidic systems involving membranes. The fabrication included a thin silicon dioxide membrane of 300 nm on top of a capillary-filled sacrificial core. Tests were performed using particles with a diameter of 2 μm to verify the flow and divergence. Results indicate the tendency of target particles to follow an expected trajectory.
