Airtightness Performance of Thin-Shell Concrete Dome Structures

In response to the urgent need to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and enhance energy efficiency in residential buildings, this research paper evaluated an insulated concrete thin-shell dome structure for airtight-ness. Residential buildings are significant contributors to global emissions, with heating and cooling systems being the primary culprits. Airtightness is identified as a key factor in improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions. The paper integrates existing research in concrete thin-shell domes and modular structures, focusing on airtightness strategies within modular construction. Methods include experimental testing using the blower door test to evaluate airtightness. Results demonstrate optimal airtightness performance in a concrete dome structure, surpassing regulatory requirements. The study highlights the effectiveness of modular construction methodologies in achieving superior airtightness, thereby enhancing overall building performance and energy efficiency.
