Charge Detection Mass Spectrometry (CDMS) of Microparticles

This paper describes a Charge Detection Mass Spectrometry (CDMS) detector for micron-sized particles and studies the effect of the detector tube diameter on the detector performance. Charged particles are measured using Image Charge Detection (ICD) and a strong electric field. Measurement results show that a reduction in the detector diameter and the introduction of a charged funnel improves the detection accuracy of single PMMA particles 5 μm in diameter.
