Advancing Understanding: Welded Wire Reinforcement Use in Concrete Structures

This paper aims to assess the current state of knowledge regarding welded wire reinforcement (WWR). Over the years, WWR has undergone extensive testing to enhance understanding of its properties and performance as a reinforcement material. Historically, concerns have centered around the ductility of WWR. Recent code revisions, aimed at bolstering ductility requirements for non-prestressed steel reinforcement, have raised concerns within the industry. While these code updates currently do not encompass WWR, this review serves to provide preliminary insights to support ongoing research endeavors. By elucidating the current state of WWR, this review seeks to prepare for the potential expansion of these code requirements to include WWR alongside non-prestressed reinforcement materials.
