Fabrication of High Density Flex Cables Using Direct Write Laser Ablation

Combining a “direct write” micro laser ablation process with traditional flex cable manufacturing techniques allows for the creation of low-cost, scalable, high density super-conducting flex cables with high thermal resistance. This work explores the benefits and challenges of this process and details the process used to create these cables. The process includes plating polyimide films with superconducting materials, using a femtosecond laser to create a flex cable pattern on the film and laminating several films together to create high density superconducting flex cables.
