Near-Field Magnetic Loop Antenna for Fetal Cardiac Monitoring Initial Explorations

This article is the start of a series that describes the development of a near-field magnetic loop antenna for fetal cardiac monitoring. This first installment describes the device, theory of operation, and initial sensitivity to fluid depth in a saline tank model using S11 parameters. Two modes of operation are described: uniform current and resonant mode.
