Ultrasound Triggered release of Curcumin for the breast cancer therapy

This study investigates the ultrasound-mediated triggered release of Curcumin, a well-known anticancer drug whose utilization is restricted due to its inadequate bioavailability. In this, we have combined Curcumin and IR780, a sonosensitizer used for the triggered release of the system for the breast cancer treatment, encapsulated within the liposomal nanocarriers. The liposomes were prepared using the thin-film hydration method, and the prepared liposomes (C7Lnps) were subjected to characterization studies through dynamic light scattering and microscopy and in vitro evaluations of biocompatibility, cellular uptake, and cytotoxicity techniques. Results demonstrate promising properties of the synthesized nanoparticles, with enhanced cellular uptake and cytotoxic effects observed in breast cancer cell lines following ultrasound-triggered release. The study highlights the potential of sonosensitizers for controlled drug delivery in cancer therapy.
