High Speed Data Transfer using SOA Enabled WDM-PON Network

As the world’s internet user base approaches 5.3 billion by 2023, the demand for bandwidth is only growing. The paper highlights the importance of wavelength division multiplexing passive optical networks (WDM-PON) for scalability and high data transmission capacity. The paper also discusses how semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) operate to enhance network performance by reducing intensity noise and increasing bit error rates. The study emphasizes the critical role of communication devices, photonics, and optics in achieving these advancements and study shows how NRZ coding can increase the performance of transmitters and APD receivers, particularly at higher transmitter power. WDM technology sends multiple light sources with different wavelengths over a single cable which significantly improves fiber transmission capacity in presence of SOA. The performance of WDM-PON networks is evaluated through metrics such as power, bandwidth, and bit-rate error.
