Enhancing Aeroponics with Ubiquitous Computing: A Design Proposal for Vertical Grow Towers in Malaysia

This study investigates the potential of ubiquitous computing and aeroponics in enhancing crop productivity and resource efficiency in Malaysia’s agricultural sector. It proposes a design for vertical grow towers that integrates sensors, actuators, data analytics, and IoT connectivity to create a controlled and adaptive cultivation environment. The design is compared with existing systems like iFarm, Tower Garden, and Argosee. The proposed system optimizes plant growth by regulating temperature, humidity, light, CO2, water, and nutrients based on real-time data and feedback mechanisms. It can be customized for different settings, such as mass production or aesthetic enhancement, using compact designs and wooden frames. This study contributes to urban agriculture by providing a novel solution that addresses food security, environmental sustainability, and economic growth challenges in Malaysia. It underscores the transformative potential of technology and design in agricultural practices, paving the way for a greener and more resilient urban environment.
