Finite Element Simulation Study of Cutting Thickness in Micro-milling of Ti-22Al-25Nb Alloy

Ti-22Al-25Nb alloy is a high-performance metal alloy that has attracted much attention in research and application fields for its excellent high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance. This alloy has a wide range of uses in aerospace, energy and other high temperature applications. There are several challenges in manufacturing and machining of Ti-22Al-25Nb alloys which are tiny parts, especially in micro milling machining. Among them, the minimum cutting thickness determines the highest machining accuracy in micro-milling. In order to improve the surface quality of Ti-22Al-25Nb alloy under micro-milling machining, this paper carries out micro-milling finite element simulation of Ti-22Al-25Nb alloy through ABAQUS, and the results show that these cutting thicknesses of Ti-22Al-25Nb alloy are 2 μm when the radius of the cutter tip circle is 5 μm, which concludes that the minimum cutting thickness is 0.4 times of the cutter tip circle radius. Provide theoretical guidance for actual production processing.
