Abstract:
Inertia problems in power networks with significant RES penetration are the primary focus of this review. An increasing number of distributed generation (DG) units that are based on renewable energy resources are being integrated into the power system. At the same time, the power system is experiencing low inertia and damping, which results in significant problems with the power system’s stability and performance. The decoupling of applications from sources, facilitated by power electronic inverters, leads to a decrease in the inertia of power systems The frequency stability of the system is significantly impacted by the quick changes in frequency and fluctuations in frequency that occur due to power imbalances. This study reviews various modelling and control algorithms and provides extensive parameter descriptions to fill the gap. This study serves as a reference for future research on VSG models and control algorithms in microgrid applications.
