Liquefaction of waste from wind energy sector towards sustainable fuels

The wind energy (WE) sector is instrumental in fulfilling the objectives of the climate change agreement. However, the use of WE is associated with the problem of managing the disposal of used wind turbine blades (WTBs). An estimated 42 million metric tons of WTBs will require recycling globally each year by 2050. One of the most effective recycling processes are chemical processes. The paper outlines the outcomes of experimental research concerning the oxidative liquefaction (OL) process of end-of-life (EoL) WTBs. The results indicate that this method enables the processing of these problematic wastes into liquid substances that serve as precursors to liquid fuels.
