Perception of Prospective Users on Autonomous Shuttle as a Smart Mobility Service: A case of Chulalongkorn University, Thailand

The Autonomous Shuttle stands as a trendy mode of transportation, catering to intrazonal commuting within confined areas or acting as a feeder system to major transportation modes. It is expected that a substantial portion of the populace recognizes these benefits and contemplates transitioning from their current modes of transportation to this innovative service. It becomes imperative to discern the general perception of this novel service and the inclination to adopt it. This study delves into the characteristics of potential Autonomous Shuttle users. Moreover, the study delves into the factors that exert influence on the willingness to transition towards this emerging service. Chulalongkorn University in Thailand was selected as the study area. A questionnaire survey was conducted, garnering responses from a sample size of 402 participants. The subsequent analyses involved the application of diverse statistical methodologies to scrutinize potential users and their predisposition to embrace the service. Employing a blend of descriptive statistical analyses and in-depth examinations, the research findings unveil a series of salient insights. Distinct patterns emerge when dissecting the preferences of individuals who utilize existing transportation modes—namely, Popbus, Muvmi, E-scooter, Shared Bike, Private car, and Walking. Additionally, the study successfully identifies the most coveted attributes of the Autonomous Shuttle service, offering invaluable insights for design refinements. These findings bear significance in shaping future endeavors. Not only do they contribute to the formulation of preferred attributes for the Autonomous Shuttle service, but they also lay the groundwork for fostering the adoption of this innovative mode of transportation.
