The pilot project of EV charging management implemented in MEA's distribution power system

The purpose of this article is to discuss a method for managing the electric charging system for public stations within the Metropolitan Electricity Authority's (MEA) distribution service area. The goal is to utilize it as a tool for efficiently managing and controlling the electric distribution system. This is achieved by dynamically adjusting the electric current of the charging stations in real-time. This ensures that the electrical load of the charging stations remains appropriate, considering the power supply conditions of the distribution system. The approach follows the Open Smart Charging Protocol communication standard. This project has implemented two formats: controlling the charging stations within MEA network and controlling the charging stations connected to other station operators' networks. The system comprises approximately 240 stations with a total installed power capacity of over 76,000 kW. This enables MEA to effectively manage investments in the electrical infrastructure.
