Voltage Control of Single-Phase Self Excited Induction Generator Supplying Nonlinear Loads using Static VAR Compensator

This paper proposes implementation of a voltage control method of a 0.75 kW, 220 V, 4 pole, 50 Hz single-phase self excited induction generator supplying nonlinear loads using a fixed capacitor thyristor controlled reactor type static VAR compensator. The suitable capacitor values for main and auxiliary windings for the self excited induction generator are selected for successful voltage build up process and appropriate terminal voltage and frequency for stand alone applications. The performance of the proposed system under various operating conditions is investigated. The validity of the proposed system is verified by both simulation and experiment. The obtained results are in good agreement and show that the proposed system is able to feed both linear and nonlinear loads over a wide range operation.
