Mitigation of High Penetration Level of Fast Charging Stations in the Distribution Power System Using Feeder Reconfiguration

This paper presents the mitigation of high penetration level of fast charging stations (FCS) integrated in the electrical power system. The primary radial distribution power system of the IEEE 33 bus with tie switches was used to solve feeder reconfiguration and reduce impact of FCS. Power system analysis toolbox (PSAT) is selected to adapt from this problem. The FCS was represented by using a voltage-dependent load (VDL) and considered by load groups. The feeder reconfiguration was used to manage the power flow on the transmission lines that adapted by including the best solution of the tie switches. The simulation results showed that the FCS increased the total power loss and the average voltage magnitude of grid. But also, the feeder reconfiguration can be improved the total power loss and in increased the average voltage magnitude of the grid.
