Ultra-wideband High Precision Positioning System Based on EDS-TWR and EKF Algorithm

Traditional indoor positioning techniques that rely on time-of-flight and trilateration often encounter issues with measurement accuracy and stability due to clock drift and frequency deviation inherent to conventional ranging methods. Addressing these challenges, this study introduces a novel strategy by incorporating an Extended Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging (EDS-TWR) technique, further enhanced by the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) to reduce positioning errors. An Ultra-Wideband (UWB) positioning system, utilizing STM32 and DWM1000 modules, was developed to facilitate a comparative analysis. The results reveal that the system based on the EDS-TWR algorithm significantly outperforms the traditional Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA)-Chan approach, achieving an 80.53% increase in positioning accuracy and a marked improvement in stability. This confirms the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in enhancing high-precision wireless indoor positioning systems.
