Penta-Band Near-Perfect Metamaterial Absorbers: A Butterfly-Shaped EER Approach

Recent statistics indicate that electromagnetic metamaterial absorbers are of great interest due to their ability to absorb nearly all incoming electromagnetic waves within a specific frequency range. The primary factor influencing absorption is the metamaterial inclusions, other than the inherent properties of the constituent material. The metamaterial absorbers (MMA) are significant because they have numerous potential applications, including manipulation of waves, terahertz imaging, harvesting of energy, operational radiatively cooling, and chemical detection. This paper presents a Penta-band near-perfect metamaterial absorber and the proposed model consists of a butterfly-shaped Elliptical Ring Resonator (EER) having four slits and which achieves a multi-band absorption from 0.1 to 3 THz range. This provides absorption of 99.44% at 1.41 THz, 99.0% at 1.92, 99.99% at 2.29 THz, 99.98% at 2.4 THz, and 92.64% at 2.64 THz. The proposed model is polarization insensitive and nearly incident angle insensitive towards 45°. This proposed model may find significant practical applications for its between the specified terahertz range.
