Ethanol Monitoring using Copper Oxide Sensor

Ethanol, a transparent and colorless liquid, finds application in the processing of food and alcoholic beverages, as well as in the production of fuel, personal care items, and household products. Monitoring ethanol levels is crucial in various industries such as Distilleries, Wineries, Breweries, Chemical Production, Cosmetics, Pharmaceuticals, and Food Processing. Gas detection sensors play a vital role in maintaining safe ethanol levels, especially in production operations. Semiconducting metal oxide nanostructures offer promise for effective ethanol sensing. This study focuses on crafting a highly sensitive ethanol gas sensor using copper oxide with thin nano plates synthesized through a simple chemical precipitation process and hydrothermal process, it was found that the chemical precipitation method yielded better results when tested with ethanol and fabrication via compact method. Thorough examination of the prepared copper oxide using techniques like X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy reveals a resistive sensor device with superior sensing response under optimized conditions compared to traditional methods. This sensor exhibits rapid response, exceptional selectivity in contrast to alternatives. The fabricated ethanol sensor’s gas response mechanism is outlined without making concluding statements. This approach helps to keep ethanol monitoring safe and makes the sensor better than traditional methods with improved response time.
