Estimation of Channel Using FFT In Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces For 5G and Beyond

Beamforming and amplitude and phase modification of the reflected signals are made possible by the coherent combination of the numerous independently controlled passive reflecting elements that comprise intelligent reflecting surfaces. An estimate of the incoming and outgoing channels’ channel coefficients is necessary for beamforming. In an IRS-assisted Fifth Generation orthogonal frequency division multiplexing waveform communication system, the usefulness of a Fast Fourier transform -based channel estimation technique is investigated in this work. In order to enable beamforming and modify the amplitude and phase of reflected signals, the IRS is made up of multiple independently controlled passive reflecting elements Estimating the incoming and outgoing channel coefficients is crucial for beamforming. Because it doesn’t require the whole OFDM symbol for pilot broadcast, the study uses a DFT-based channel estimation approach that may be implemented in parallel with data transmission. The intelligent reflecting surfaces are composed of several independently controlled passive reflecting elements (RE) that coherently combine to enable beamforming and amplitude and phase modulation of the reflected signals. Beamforming requires an estimate of the channel coefficients for the incoming and outgoing channels.
