Selective Harmonic Elimination in Multilevel inverter using Grasshopper Optimization algorithm

Meta-heuristic techniques have shown remarkable performance in solving nonlinear optimization problems, Current study aims at conducting an inclusive comparison of Grasshopper optimization algorithm adopted for Selective harmonic elimination (SHE) for cascaded H Bridge multilevel inverter (CHB MLI) and conventional PWM technique. The optimization technique has been applied to 5 level multilevel inverter with switching angles as variables and total harmonic distortion (THD) as an objective function. These optimized pulse patterns are obtained by the Grasshopper optimization algorithm (GHO), Optimized switching angles have been obtained for 5 level inverters for different modulation index (MI) from 0.05 to 0.9. The Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) for the output phase voltage and line voltage were found to be reduced in comparison with the conventional PWM technique.
