Magnetic Particle Imaging U sing an Optically Pumped Magnetometer and a Flux Transformer

We propose a magnetic particle imaging (MPI) scanner using an optically pumped magnetometer (OPM) and a flux transformer. OPM has high sensitivity, however, it does not operate in the excitation magnetic field to magnetize magnetic nanoparticles owing to a narrow dynamic range. Hence, a flux transformer is employed to overcome the problem. The results demonstrate that a 100 μg-Fe Resovist magnetic nanoparticle sample could be successfully detected even when the magnetic nanoparticle sample is located 25–50 mm from the pickup coil.
