Smart Helmet Proximity Alerts for Enhanced Safety in Underground Mines

The development and implementation of a multi-sensor enabled smart helmet system designed to enhance workplace safety, with a focus on hazardous environments such as mining. The system integrates Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology for wireless communication and comprises three main components: a beacon, a helmet, and integrated gas and vibration sensors. The beacon serves as the master device, while the helmet, equipped with gas and vibration sensors, acts as the slave device. Upon successful pairing, facilitated within 5 seconds, the system becomes operational. The primary function of the system is to monitor user movement and detect potential hazards in the environment. In addition to recognizing restricted areas marked with metal, the system utilizes gas sensors to detect hazardous gases and vibration sensors to identify potential structural instabilities. Real-time data from these sensors trigger warnings, alerting users to imminent dangers and promoting safer work practices. The integration of gas and vibration sensors enhances the system's capability to mitigate various safety risks prevalent in industrial settings. By leveraging BLE technology, the system ensures efficient wireless communication while minimizing power consumption, thereby extending helmet battery life.
