Influence of Power Electronic Devices Failure Rate on Wind Turbine System Reliability

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of failure rate variation of power electronic devices on the reliability of wind turbine system. Based on the relationship between device failure rate and system reliability, the relationship between them is studied. This paper presents an idea of linking power electronics and wind power system reliability calculation. Additionally, the calculation methods of failure rates for systems with different connection modes, including series system and parallel system, are also described. Finally, a numerical case study using non-sequential Monte Carlo method is carried out to verify the degree of influence of device failure rate on system reliability. The analysis shows that the different degree of equipment failure rate will have a non-negligible impact on the fan system. Therefore, changes in the failure rate of power electronics need to be considered in the reliability assessment of the fan system.
