Body Fat Proportion Estimation by the Segmental Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis of Forearm

Body fat level may refer to obesity-constituting an elevated health risk factor related to several diseases. Traditionally measured by whole-body bioelectrical impedance analysis or determined through body mass index calculation, the progress in technology proposes solutions also in this domain. This paper introduces a correlation between the real part of impedance (ReZ), measured from a single and small area on the forearm, and the body mass index. Correlation appears when the ReZ is derived from a skin area on which the therapeutic mud has been applied beforehand to gain its specific effect-verified in the group of ten volunteers. The discovery promises advances in emerging solutions for body fat proportion estimation, e.g., during and before the therapeutic mud procedures.
