A Metal Rod Measurement Method in Liquid by using an EMAT Array

In this paper, we propose a method for the measurement of metal rod in liquid by means of an electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) array sensor. Two EMATs, served as the transmitting EMAT and the receiving EMAT array respectively, are wrapped around the external layer of the metal pipe. The simulation provided results for the optimal installation distance of two EMAT transducers and the feasibility of using the L(0,1) mode for metal rod detection. During experiments, the position and size of the metal rod can be determined by analyzing the amplitude attenuation and time variation of the leaky wave. Based on these results, the proposed method is capable of detecting metal rod in liquid and provides a robust basis for advancing the development of multiphase flow tomography.
