Application of SVM to Extend the Measurement Range of an Interferometric Sensor

This work addresses the limitation generally faced by interferometers in the measurement of physical variables, restricted to a single spectral range determined by a free spectral range (FSR) of the interferometric spectrum. As a solution, a methodology based on support vector machines (SVMs) is presented to break out the measurement ambiguity of a temperature interferometric sensor. Consequently, it is demonstrated that, by using the proposed methodology, the measurement range of this type of sensors can be extended over several FSR periods. Finally, to support the viability of the methodology, there are presented experimental results which show that the measurement range of the optical sensor can be increased by an order of
