Performance Analysis of Highly Flexible Antenna for On-Body Communication

The development of flexible electronics has paved the way for advanced applications in various domains. The demand for innovative antennas has grown alongside the rise of wearable technologies, which has prompted research into small, flexible antennas. Polymer-based substrates have emerged as promising materials for implementing these antennas, offering flexibility, durability, and lightweight for seamless integration into everyday devices. The proposed work conducts the performance evaluation of a UWB monopole antenna with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as a dielectric material for On-body communication. , VSWR, gain, and radiation pattern at E and H planes in free space, while bending and on human tissue layers, are simulated and analyzed. The proposed antenna encompasses the frequency range of 3.2 to 10.2 GHz with a notch band of 4 GHz for –10 dB return loss and for VSWR <2 under flat, bending, and On-body scenarios. The simulated SAR values are under the FCC limit, making the proposed PDMS-based antenna ideal for On-body communication.
