Development of a Programmable Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulator

This paper proposes the design of a Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulator (NMES) used for home-based rehabilitation. It has a DC/DC Boost converter followed by a pulse generator. The Microcontroller based programming controls the stimulation parameters. Here we present the proposed circuit's design, simulation, and experimental results. The stimulator circuit realized is comparable to the simulation results. The stimulator delivers current pulses from 10mA to 60mA at two predefined frequencies of 5 Hz and 25 Hz and two variable pulse widths of 200us, and 400us.
