IoT-Based Post-Surgical Monitoring System for Medical Rehabilitation

Nowadays, it's quite common that elderly people are undergoing ligament surgeries. In this situation, physical rehabilitation for the lower body is essential. Regularly monitoring the patient and tracking their rehabilitation efforts at home and in the hospital is vital to prevent long-term harm to the injured part and to hasten the healing process. To solve this problem, a low-cost portable IOT-based system is developed, which could be used for real-time monitoring of post-surgery patients. The monitoring system uses a website and a monitoring shoe to ensure the patient recovers more quickly. The monitoring shoe is equipped with force sensors and a Wi-Fi-enabled microcontroller. This system enables regular monitoring of the patient by the doctor, who can adjust the recovery program settings according to the patient history. This also gives the user a feedback alarm whenever the sensors reach the predefined threshold. The feedback also positively affects the number of steps taken to be progressive under the target weight.
