Comprehensive Analysis of MPPT Strategies for PV Systems to Maximize Energy Yield

In a stand-alone solar photovoltaic power system, for a solar PV array to reach its peak power, it requires the utilization of an optimal load under varying conditions. An interconnection of PV system components matched under all conditions is difficult to realize in normal practice. The mismatch of different system components makes it difficult to size the system properly, which results in energy losses and component degradation. Individual MPP tracker Algorithms are used to acquire the corresponding duty cycle as a control input to adjust the input impedance of the de-to-de boost converter to maintain the operating point always at the peak power point, such that peak power is always drawn from the PV module. In this paper, a complete analysis of MPP Tracking strategies such as perturbation and Observation, Incremental conductance, fixed voltage, and fixed current has been carried out to maximize energy yield in MATLAB/Simulink. The P&O and INC algorithms do not require periodic tunning and do not depend on PV array characteristics.
