The Impact of Near-Strike Lightning on Computers: A Transient Magnetic Field Experiment

Considering the inherent uncertainty of potential damage to essential electronic equipment, including computer hosts, cables, and displays, due to lightning strikes, this study conducts rigorous experiments on the magnetic fields generated by nearby lightning strikes. The experiments comply with the GJB1389A lightning environment specifications, aiming to identify critical parameters such as lightning resistance margin, magnetic field strength, and the threshold for magnetic field change rate relevant to computer hosts and other electronic devices. The data from these experiments are set to significantly enhance protective measures for computer hosts against lightning strikes, offering valuable insights into safeguarding electronic equipment in challenging environments.
