A Triple-Band Shared-Aperture High-Gain Antenna Based on Polarized Grid Metasurface

In this paper, a shared-aperture triple-band antenna with high gain is proposed. The antenna is implemented by blending a dual-band reflectarray at Ka-band into a Fabry-Perot cavity antenna (FPCA) at C-band. This antenna consists of two layers. The top layer metasurface contains a layer of polarized grid metasurface, which exhibit different electromagnetic characteristics for different polarized waves. Based on the polarized grid metasurface, these two layers can be used to form an FPCA and two reflectarrays simultaneously. The simulated impedance bandwidth of the triple-band antenna spans across the 5.9/28/38 GHz bands. The simulated results also exhibit a peak gain of 15.8 dBi at 5.9 GHz, 26.8 dBi at 28 GHz, and 27.1 dBi at 38 GHz. The corresponding aperture efficiency are 62%, 40% and 23%, respectively. The realization of the triple-band antenna boasting high gain provides a promising solution for 5G communication.
