An Ultra-compact Dual band CPW Fed Antenna for RADAR and SATCOM Wireless Systems

This article proposes a new design concept of very small dual band antenna. An effective multi-element approach is employed to form an innovative antenna lattice. The proposed antenna comprises of a triangular shaped metal patch (TSMP), 50 Ω coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed line and an extended rectangle shaped metal ground plane. Moreover, the antenna design is further transformed to a new shape of the radiator by embedding different shaped multiple stubs on the TSMP. The proposed antenna is carefully designed, simulated and impedance matching performance results are provided. The analyzed results demonstrated the dual band response which constitutes an impedance bandwidth of 2.4 GHz and 1.22 GHz. The proposed antenna has a peak realized gain of 5.75 dBi and strong current density at pointed resonances. The comparison analysis of key parameters with the latest reported work is also given. The results confirmed that the proposed antenna is suitable for radio detection and ranging (RADAR) and satellite communication (SATCOM) wireless systems.
