Modeling Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) for the Treatment of Postoperative Residual Tumors

Tumor-treating fields (TTFields) are a novel treatment for brain tumors that use intermediate frequency (100-500kHz) and low intensity (1-3V/cm) alternating electric fields to disrupt cell division. This study used the TTFields method to conduct electromagnetic modeling and simulation of postoperative tumor residue and cerebrospinal fluid filled the excised tumor area. By establishing real brain and tumor models, this paper shows quasi-static electric field simulation analysis on two tumor models: a circular shell of tumors with a thickness of 1mm and a tumor with half of the tumor core removed. The simulation results show that the tumor shell's average residual electric field intensity exceeds the treatment threshold of 1V/cm, and fields can still effectively treat residual tumors.
